Option to mirror a group of scans and flip along axis

  • Hey,

I am scanning a part that is very symmetrical (a physical tool).

It'd be sweet if I could take a scan of one side, and then mirror the scan along an axis and then align those two scans.

I know I can scan, flip, scan, then align, but since the sides are so similar it is difficult for the auto/point pick to determine which side is which. It also takes a very long time to usually give results that arent quite right.

If I scan just 1 side then try to mesh, the merge scan/mesh creates some wild geometries when trying to close the scan since half of it is missing.

  • Noted, thanks for your ideas Alex. I have them down as feature requests in our project.

In the meantime, may I suggest getting to know the software Blender?  It's free and extremely powerful for editing meshes.  You might want to do a few quick basic tutorials to start,  but the learning curve isn't too hard if you're familiar with 3d models. After you have some footing, simply export the scan from the THREE and load it into blender. Rotate the model to align with the axis you want to mirror along and apply the mirror modifier.  Heres a quick tutorial on that modifier.
